As usual we gathered at Topaz Service, Cork even though the conditions were very slippery 11 cars turned up including a Ferrari 308 GTSI owned by long time friend and Irish Land speed Record Holder Mel Nolan. I am hoping to convert him to the Porsche family in the near future. The mix of car was great, 911S, Carrera 3, 944, 968, 2 x 911sc’s, 996, 996 C4S, 3.2 Boxter and Club President Dave Whelan in his Cayenne, the ideal vehicle for the conditions.

We travelled to Irelands Gourmet capitol, Kinsale and the Blu Haven Hotel for Breakfast and some very interesting slaloms happened along the way. Breakfast was beautiful and we spent a long time swapping stories. Congratulations to Albert Lennon who announced his engagement to Correanna. We collected a substantial sum after breakfast to help towards medical expenses of fellow club members Brian and Noleen Kane whose little son Mannix is ill at present. We wish Mannix a speedy recovery. Over breakfast we discussed the many events that will happen in 2010, Track days, Technical meetings, Kinsale International Rally, Shows, Le Mans, Nurburgring etc. We also hope to have regular weekend drives throughout the 2010.

Dave Whelan made 2 presentations to the furthest travelled cars, rear engined to Albert Lennon, (Porsche calendar) who travelled from Kilkenny and front engined to Stephen Woods (bottle of bubbly) who travelled from Clonmel.

When the food was digested we travelled on to Old Head of Kinsale, Harbour View, Timoleague and Courtmacsherry and stopped at Pink Elephant Restaurant for refreshments on the way home. The scenery was breathtaking and we saw some whales basking while in the Pink Elephant. This is where a very large whale beached last year. Discovery Channel made a programme on the event and it was fronted by Mark Evans the Discovery presenter of all things (that have engines) that need rebuilding. Mark just happens to be a veterinary surgeon also.

Big thanks to everybody for braving the elements and we understand the people that were unable to come due to conditions, We look forward to bigger and better events in 2010 and some serious driving before the petrol runs out or we are forced to run on grass or water.

Best wishes and prosperous 2010.
